How are users handled by the filtering system? Print

Here are a few notes and tips about users as they relate to the filtering system:
  • It is not necessary to set up individual users in the filtering system. This is an optional step.
  • Users on the filtering system do not need to correlate to email users.
  • There are 3 categories of user:
User: will only be able to view messages and settings for the individual email user. In this case, it IS necessary for the username to correspond with an email address. Users will only be able to see e-mail address to/from themselves and to be able to add blacklist / whitelist entries for their individual address
Domain Administrator: can be assigned one or more domain names and will only be able to see messages to/from those domains or create blacklist / whitelist entries for those domains or for a specific email recipient within those domains.
Administrator: has full control over the system.

To add a new user, follow these steps:

  • Log into your administration page
  • Click on Tools/Links
  • From "System Management" click on "User Management"
  • Click "New User"
  • Set the various options for the user such as the username and password, the user's role (ie: user, domain admin, server admin)
  • When done, click "Create"

Existing users can also be modified by clicking on Edit, Delete or Filters to the right of the username in the user list.

  • "Edit" will allow you to change the basic parameters such as the username, password, and scanning options
  • "Delete" will remove the user from the system.
  • "Filters" allows you to set criteria for visibility. If you add a domain name, then the user will be able to view all messages sent to or from the domain name that pass through the system. If you add an email address, the user will be able to view messages only from that email address.
  • Filters are useful if you have a user that you would like to give control over multiple email addresses, or even multiple names, but do not wish to make a system-wide administrator.
